Course Outline - Our course covers the use of handcuffs, soft cuffs and restraint straps.


Our Safe and Effective Use of Restraint Equipment (Hand cuffs) course will provide delegates with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the legal framework they must operate within and effective practical skills in how to use the equipment.

Course Content


  • Understand the primary reason for handcuffing.
  • Understand the Health & Safety implications, including sections 2 and 3 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Regulation 3(1) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, the requirements of PUWER as well as implications of the new Health and Safety Offences Act 2008 and the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007. 
  • Understand the law, Common Law, use of force Articles 5, 3 and 2 of the Human Rights Act 1998.
  • Understand other areas of guidance if required such as: The Mental Health Act Code of Practice and NICE guidelines.
  • Understand the medical implications of handcuffing, including positional asphyxia.
  • Demonstrate how to apply handcuffs to a passive subject.
  • Demonstrate how to apply handcuffs to an aggressive subject.
  • Demonstrate how to remove handcuffs correctly.

  • Understand all the legislation relating to handcuffs and the use of.
  • Understand how to physically, correctly and legally use handcuffs in a multitude of situations and environments.

  • When and how do I arrange payments?

    • Payments can be made in Pounds Sterling or UAE local currency AED (Arab Emirates Dirhams) either by Bank Transfer or by Credit Card. Our Bank Account details will be provided on the invoice.
    • Course fees are payable upon booking unless a valid, authorised Purchase Order is provided and accepted.
    • Invoices will be sent via email/courier to the ID/name and address provided.
    • The course fee shall be settled prior to course start date. Corporate payments with existing payment policy shall be relayed to us in advance.

  • When should I expect to receive confirmation of registration?
